For such a small Olympics ,everyone had a blast doing the gumboot
throw with an amazing win by England. Coming second was USA and winning bronze was the amazing Japan. It was astonishing! Everyone cheering for their country. Our gold winner Matua R was mortified, he could not believe he’d won gold.

On the 2nd of August 2012, Room 7 and 8 finished their afternoon with a bit of Gumboot Throwing. Gumboot Throwing is one of the many events at the Eltham Mini Olympics. The event was a hit with the athletes. Everyone had a great time. All the countries were cheering on their finalists, with Matua winning gold for England, and coming in second was Tama from New Zealand. A word from the gold medal winner:
“ I was shocked, I thought New
Zealand was going to win. But after thinking
a while, I got my muscles tensed up and
threw the Gumboot like there was no tomorrow!”
When Room 7 and 8 started the Mini Olympics, they had great fun having the opening Ceremony. But all they wanted to do
was play against each other in a battle to win the gold medal. Well England was stoked by winning the gold medal and they
want to maintain their momentum for the next event. But New Zealand on the other hand wanted to break England’s momentum and make it theirs. Miss Le Bas had her video camera out and was happy that she got all of the footage she needed.
“ It was a big challenge and it was hard to get into
the finals” all of the athletes said.
